M.SC INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY,

The Masters in Information Technology is an intensive, practically-oriented taught postgraduate  programme which will equip you with advanced IT skills. Information technology has vital  value in this era. The pace of change brought about by new technologies has a  significant effect on the way people live and work worldwide. Information technology,  while an important area of study in its own right, is having a major impact across all  curriculum areas. Easy worldwide communication provides instant access to a vast  array of data, challenging assimilation and assessment skills. Rapid communication,  plus increased access to IT in the home, at work, and in educational establishments,  could mean that learning becomes a truly lifelong activity, an activity in which the pace  of technological change forces constant evaluation of the learning process itself. World  is growing in its maximum speed day by day and job for tomorrow are significant on  technological aspects such as access to variety of resources, Instance to information  and fast communication, are all part of Information Technology. Hence Information  Technology is very much relevant to present trends in one or the other way. 


TITLE AND DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME  1.  The post-graduate programme in Information Technology will be called as the  Master of Science in Information Technology.  2. The M.Sc Information Technology programme will be of two academic year’s  duration and conducted four semesters with each semester having an academic  duration of 14 to 16 weeks.


MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION  The medium of instruction of M.Sc Information Technology programme is English only.  However, Examination is  answered in English only.  Under open distance system, a  paper is called “Course” and a course as “Programme”. ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS FOR M.Sc INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY PROGRAMME  The candidates who fulfill any one of the condition as stated below are eligible to seek  admission in M.Sc Information Technology.  a) Graduates in BCA/BE/B.Tech/AMIE/B.Sc (IT)/B.Sc (CS) from any recognized  university are eligible for direct admission to M.Sc (IT). b) Graduates in B.Sc with mathematics as one of the major optional are also eligible for 
direct admission to M.Sc (IT).  


MAXIMUM DURATION FOR COMPLETING M.Sc INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY 
PROGRAMME 
A candidate who is admitted to the M.Sc  Information Technology programme shall complete the degree within twice the duration of the programme i.e., 4 years, from the date of his/her admission failing which he has to seek admission afresh.


PROGRAM STRUCTURE  The program M.Sc (IT) is of duration 4 semesters each semester as 18 credits except  4 th  semester = 19 credits, totally 73 credits.  The first semester’s together cover 18  credits. There are four theory courses each with 5 & 4 as well as 3 credits and three  practicals each of 1 credit in first semesters. The second semester is for 18 credits.  There are five theory courses each with 4 & 3 credits and two practicals each of 1 credit  in second semesters. The third semester is for 18 credits. There are 4 theory courses  each with 4 & 3 as well as mini project synopsis for 4 credits,  and two elective course  with 6 credits. In the fourth semester, there are 3 compulsory theory courses each with  4 &3 as well as 2 credits and an elective course for 4 credits and a major project work of  6 credits amounting to 19 credits in total. A dissertation should be prepared and  submitted to the Registrar (Evaluation), Karnataka State Open University, Mysore for  evaluation.
