DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (Ph.D)
Facilities exist for research leading to the award of Ph.D. Programme in the following Faculties: 1. Arts : English, History, Poiltical Science, Economics, Sociology, Commerce, Business Administration, Library & Information Science, Philosophy, Population Studies. 2. Science : Mathamatics, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Botany, Zoology, Marine Biology and Earth Science. 3. Indian Languages : Tamil, Hindi, Linguistics 4. Engineering & Technology : Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Mechanical (Manufacturing), Electrical, Instrumentation Chemical, Computer Science & Engineering and Pharmacy. 5. Education : Education, Psychology & Physical Education. 6. Fine Arts : Music 7. Agriculture : Agronomy, Entomology, Plant Pathology, Microbiology, Soil Science & Agricultureal Chemistry, Agricultural Botany, Horticulture, Agricultural Economics and Agticultural Extension. 8. Emdicine 9. Dentistry
Eligibility: The candidates registering for the Ph.D. Programme are required to satisfy any one of the following conditions: 1. Master’s Degree with 55% of marks or equivalent grade point average for courses in the Faculties of Arts, Education and Indian Languages and 60% of marks or equivalent grade point average for the Faculties of Science, Engineering & Technology and Agriculture. However for courses in the Faculty of Science, 55% in M.Sc., with a First Class in M.Phil. Degree in the concerned subject or its equivalent grade point average in the relevant discipline of this University or any other University accepted by the Syndicate as equivalent thereto. Preference will be given to those who have passed the NRF/NET/GATE Examinations. 2. Master’s Degree with 50% of marks in the concerned subject is the minimum qualification for admission to Ph.D. Programme for the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry.
