INSTITUTION OF SRI AMBIGARA CHOWDAIAH ADHYAYANA PEETHA IN MANGALORE UNIVERSITY

 STATUTE RELATING TO THE INSTITUTION OF SRI AMBIGARA CHOWDAIAH ADHYAYANA PEETHA IN MANGALORE UNIVERSITY (Framed under Section 40(1) (f) of the K.S.U. Act 2000) 
 PREAMBLE: 

 Whereas the Government of Karnataka has released a grant of Rs.50.00 lakhs during the year 2007-08 for the establishment of Sri Ambigara Chowdaiah Adhyayana Peetha in Mangalore University. In tune with the University Motto of ìJnanave Belakuî (Knowledge is Light) Sri Ambigara Chowdaiah Adhyayana Peetha aims to realize value based society; inclusive education with quality and manpower with integrity and sensitivity. Sri Ambigara Chowdaiah Adhyayana Peetha seeks to realize these objectives by promoting the larger ideals propogated by 12th century saint and composer, Sri. Nijasharana Ambigara Chowdaiah ; status and challenges ahead of fishing community and aspects concerning equity and social justice. It has become necessary to frame a Statute in this regard. 
 1. Title and Commencement: 
 a) This Statute shall be called ìthe Statute relating to the institution of Sri Ambigara Chowdaiah Adhyayana Peetha in Manglore Universityî. 
 b) This Statute shall come into force from the date of assent of the Chancellor. 
 II Objectives: 
 1. To undertake studies and research on the life and work of Ambigara Chowdaiah. 
 2. To propagate the ideals of Sri Ambigara Chowdaiah 
 3. To undertake socio-economic, historical and cultural study of the fishing community and their profession in coastal Karnataka. 
 4. To establish a documentation centre, library and museum relating to the work of Sri Ambigara Chowdaiah and the socio-economic and cultural dimensions of the fishing community. 
 5. To arrange seminars, workshops, symposia, sensitization and awareness programmes and special extension lectures. 
 6. Study of the challenges before the fishing community today. 
 7. Networking with other bodies involved in similar/related activities for joint academic programmes and actions. 
 8. Publication of work/researched materials. 
 9. To undertake any related work as decided by the Advisory Committee from time to time. 


III. Staf : 

 A senior faculty of the P.G Departments not below the rank of Associate Professor shall be appointed as Co-ordinator to organize the activities of the Peetha in addition to his regular duties as faculty member. The services of required number of Research Staff, Ministerial and other supporting staff as decided by the Advisory Committee from time to time shall be obtained to fulfill the objectives of the Peetha. Their honorarium/remuneration shall be decided by the advisory committee taking into consideration the budgetary provisions of the Peetha every year. 
 IV. Advisory Committee: 
 a) There shall be an Advisory Committee which shall meet atleast once in a year to assess and monitor the activities of the Peetha. The Committee shall also make suggestions for functioning of the Peetha more efficiently and effectively. b) The Advisory Committee shall consist of the following members. 
 1. The Vice-Chancellor ÖÖChairman 2. One member of the Syndicate to be nominated by the Vice-Chancellor ÖÖMember 3. One member of the Academic Council To be nominated by the Vice Chancellor ÖÖMember 4. A nominee of the Government of Karnataka ÖÖMember 5. Two experts in the field to be nominated by the 
 Vice-Chanceller ÖÖMembers 6. The Registrar ÖÖMember 7. The Co-Ordinator of the Centre . . . .Member Secretary 8. The Finance Officer . . . .Permanent Invitee 
 V Infrastructural Facilities: 

 The Peetha may be located in one of the existing buildings in the University Campus with the furniture and equipment purchased from the chair funds. 
 VI Finance: 
 a) The Peetha shall be managed out of the interest accrued on the initial grant of Rs.50.00 lakhs given by the Government of Karnataka. The accrued interest only shall be utilized for fulfillment of the objectives of the Peetha and shall be restricted to the amount available. b) In future the University may accept donations to the Peetha without prejudice to its objectives and programmes.
