Aruna Shanbaug was a staff nurse at the KEM Hospital when she was attacked by sweeper Sohanlal Bharta Valmiki on the evening of November 27,1973. She was in a vegetative state for more than four decades following her rape. she died in Mumbai’s KEM Hospital on Monday. She passed away at 8.30am. She had been diagnosed with pneumonia and had been on ventilator for the past few days.
Aruna Shanbaug had been in a critical condition in the intensive care unit in the hospital for a week. She was under 24 hours supervision by duty Doctors.
